Chapter 4: Revelations (Pt.5)

Michael sat on the doorstep of the 'Compass' building, watching the events unfold around him. Tracy and two other Soul Angels were weaving their hands in the air with intricate patterns. Their eyes glowed different hues as the progress of their work advanced. Ryan was shouting out orders to the others - some took to the skies to deliver messages and find other angels. Greg still had not emerged from inside the Compass. Everyone was curious, but they knew better.

Apprehension took its spot in Michael's stomach. His role in this plan was the greatest; he would have to figure out a way to bring this whole conflict to a peaceful resolution. It troubled his mind and he sought comfort. He exchanged glances with Ryan. Michael's eyes were grim and hollow. The older angel nodded his head, understanding fully. The Peacemaker spread his wings and took flight. He flew where the lingering presence in his heart was.

---

A woman took furtive steps across a polished tile floor. It was made of solid energy as were the walls, the ceiling, and every other fortification in this plane of existence. She shifted her eyes around, surveying the area. Guards with white blindfolds complimenting their white attire and wings stood with their backs to the walls. Weapons hung at their sides. The woman walked on a little bit more shakily now.

At the end of this long hall stood a throne. It was over eight feet tall and was made with intricate precision by the finest craftsmen from its city. Dan tapped his foot impatiently, resting a cheek on his closed fist. The girl stepped up to the throne and knelt down before it. "Welcome to the 'City of the Guardians,' the home of the true keepers of humanity and blah blah," Dan said with a hint of boredom in his voice.
"I have yet to find a trumpeter to shout that out for each new arrival. What brings you here?" His eyes traced the woman's features, landing on a pair of black wings.

She met his gaze. "The Soul Angels are attacking in two days," she announced. "They have their Peacemaker, Michael, to help with the attack. There is also an interesting bit of news you would like to know," she said, coyly. The woman smirked.

Dan raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Do tell," he smiled cynically. "Do you grow bored of your own kind, Lily?"

She snickered. "I love my existence. I just hate who I have to spend it with," Lily replied. "Recently, Peter passed on. I had no idea that he was the first of all of us... But doesn't that help you? One less powerful Soul Angel to deal with, right? One angel by the name of Tracy is creating an arsenal of weapons and armor resistant to your kind. The way to combat this is to kill all three Soul Angels who made them. Their power will fade when that is done. Also..." Dan stood from his throne and stepped down to face her. She paused, waiting.

"I thank you for the news, dear Lily," He laughed. "I cannot allow a Soul Angel to leave this place, hostile or not. So, thanks for the news and all, and here's your reward." Lily tried to jump back, but it was too late. Dan drew a blade from thin air and stabbed her in the chest with it. She fell to the floor, convulsing. Dan knelt down beside her. "Tell Peter he will fail when you see him. Oh, and tell him I miss him too," he let out a wicked laughter. Lily's body faded out of existence and the blade clattered to the floor. Dan took its grip; the sword disappeared by his will. He walked slowly back to his throne, sitting down with a smile.

"So long, Peter. If there's another life after this one, then I'll find the pleasure of killing you in that one." He laughed once more; his childish laughter held a dark tone to it. It echoed throughout the mighty chambers in his castle.
